I had purchased a 5 pack of Duracell replacements from Amazon and 3 of 5 batteries were duds. I wouldn’t think the key fob would be connected to the MX5 battery.

When returning to my car today, the transmitter (fob) not only activated my car, unlocking doors, unfolding mirrors etc, but also unlocked/locked a Mitsubishi Pajero vehicle parked adjacent to mine.
However, all the procedures require at least one already programmed unit in order to work. If you are comfortable, you can reprogram a key fob yourself following instructions provided in the owner’s model or on the internet. If you are a novice or are uneasy about proceeding solo, simply call your Mazda dealer or certified locksmith service Many battery retailers sell OLD stock until gone, and having just received 'NEW battery, CR2025 for latest Mazda Advanced Keyless system.,, NOTHING on the package of FIVE (5) batteries says anything on date,, back has copyright date of 2016 but nothing on expiration date, Will be checking CR2025 on battery tester when back from trip.. programmed at one time. If a transmitter is not programmed during this procedure, it will become inoperative and all transmitters for the vehicle will need to be programmed together. On 2006 model year MX-5 Miata and Mazda5, two types of keyless entry systems have been introduced, each having a different procedure for registering transmitters . acJivYu.
