I had same problem with my BMW X3 2017, the original battery was replaced at 104K, 6 yr old. Problem was solved. The Transmission malfunction message was no longer appeared. Bought battery from AutoZone and replaced by German Auto shop, they could do the programming.
Replace the screws as directed. Some of them are single-use. While you're at it, replace all of the rubber hoses. Have a 1/4" and 3/8" swivel adapter and a couple of extensions. You'll need them to reach some of the brackets and water pump screws. Trust me on this one.
